Hurry up and Wait!

That is how we feel this time of year.  Hurry up and Wait!  We keep moving as fast as we can to get all the plastic mulch laid ahead of seeding and transplanting.  Yesterday as Ben and Cassie laid the plastic mulch, Ken was seeding winter squash right behind them.  And in the words of a friend that said as she would drive the kids to their sports practice and then read a book while she waited for practice to be over, “All I ever do is Hurry up and Wait”.

The winter squash takes almost 100 days to maturity and so counting from today that means it will be ready around the middle of September.  Ken wanted to get it in the ground before we took the rest of the day off for Memorial Day.  Everyone worked together to get the job done. I was able to mow a large portion of the lawn.  Then we headed out to visit Gramps grave and place flowers on it.  Afterwards we had a picnic supper and just some down time, relaxing and walking along the river and out to the point.
